This Privacy Policy describes how the FS Gmail Tracker Chrome extension (“we,” “us,” or “the extension”) collects, uses, and handles user data. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency about the extension’s functionality.

1. Data Collection and Use

The sole purpose of this extension is to provide email tracking functionality within Gmail. To achieve this, the extension handles the following data:

  • Gmail Compose Window Content: The extension requires temporary access to the content of emails you are actively composing on mail.google.com. This is necessary to insert a tiny, invisible tracking image (pixel) into the body of the email and to re-format links so their clicks can be tracked.

  • Tracking Data: When a recipient opens an email or clicks a link tracked by this extension, technical data about that event (such as time of access) is sent to our server (joiner-carpenter.co.uk) and recorded via a Google Apps Script managed by us.

We do not store the content of your emails on our servers. We only store the logs of open and click events linked to a unique tracking ID.

2. Permissions Justification

The extension requests the following permissions to function:

  • Host Permission (mail.google.com): Used only to modify the Gmail interface in your browser to inject the tracking elements described above.

  • Storage: Used locally on your device to remember which email threads have already been processed, preventing duplicate tracking. This data never leaves your browser.

  • DeclarativeNetRequest: Used to block network requests to our tracking server when you view your own sent folder, ensuring that your own views do not trigger false “read” notifications.

3. Data Sharing and Third Parties

  • We do not sell your data to any third parties.

  • The extension relies on Google’s infrastructure (Gmail and Google Apps Script) to function. Data handled by these services is subject to Google’s own privacy policies.
